TITLE: Director of Family Life Ministries

REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor

POSITION: Full time

 

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Director of Family Life Ministries will oversee our ministries to children, youth, and families. This will involve program development and overseeing the implementation of said programs/activities. The Director will develop and nurture a ministry for all types of families, striving to guide, nurture, and support all people as they grow as Christian disciples. The Director will work to provide family members opportunities to grow in their relationship with God and respond to that relationship faithfully in the church and the world.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Intergenerational:

Encourage intergenerational gatherings to help all generations recognize how God is working in the whole family of God.

Work with the church staff to ensure that there are opportunities for all generations to worship, learn and serve together.

Equipping and Encouraging Parents/Guardians:

Develop and implement a plan for on-going parent/guardian training and encouragement.

Oversee training that lead parents/guardians to help them understand their role and responsibilities.

Work with ministry leaders to bridge the gap between what children and youth are learning and what adults are learning.

Develop access to resources that allow parents/guardians to lead in their home in such a way that spiritual unity is maintained.

Provide support to parents/guardians and their family in their faith and specific issues in their family.

Coordination with church staff:

Supervise the Director of Youth Ministries and the Director of Children’s Ministries and work together with programs and activities.

Work closely with the Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, Minister of Visitation, Director of Joy Child Development Center, Director of Music, and other church staff.

Recruit, supervise, and work with volunteers.

Ministry to families in community:

Be attentive to the hopes, concerns, and needs of families of all configurations in the community to determine how the congregation might serve them and how they might serve one another as Christian disciples and good neighbors.

Build networks with community organizations and communities to connect the congregation with the community for a strong program.

Promotion:

Keep the church family informed as to activities provided for parents/guardians and their families.

Promote to the community and encourage their participation in programs and activities available for their families.

Visit and encourage families looking for a church home to become part of the First United Methodist church family.

Build a communication network with families through social media or other appropriate means.

Other duties and responsibilities:

Be a regular attendee of the First United Methodist Church and take part in the church services and activities as appropriate.

Serve on church committees/boards as appropriate, provide reports as required

Establish goals and measure accomplishments against recognized standards.

Supervise the finances delegated to the Family Life Program

Attend professional meetings and conferences as appropriate.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, active listening skills, ability to deal with confidential information, ability to work independently with little supervision, ability to organize and prioritize, ability to build rapport and develop strong relationships, valid Kansas driver’s license.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, three years experience working with families, knowledge of computers/technology/social media.

A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Other but not required: Conversant in Spanish, ability to work with music program.
