MCC falls Regional Championship Game; Earns At-Large Bid to Nationals

The MCC men's basketball team fell short in their bid to win the Regional Championship game on Saturday, losing 69-67 to Grace University.  MCC had swept Grace in the regular season but a dismal offensive showing in the first half created to big of a hole for the Crusaders to dig out of.  In the first half MCC went 5-30 from the field, and only going 13-17 from the free throw line allowed MCC to keep within striking distance, as they trailed 38-26 at the half.

In the second half Grace would push the lead back out to fifteen points, and with about nine minutes left MCC was down 59-46.  At that point MCC went on a 12-2 run to trim the deficit to 61-58 with four minutes remaining.  However from there Grace would be able to keep MCC at bay, coming up with key free throws and timely offensive rebounds to preserve the victory.  Josh Camacho led MCC with 15 points while Lonnie Penner chipped in with 12 points.

Despite the loss MCC was still selected to receive an At-Large bid to the NCCAA National Tournament in Springfield, MO.  MCC will be the #8 seed and they will take on the #9 seed Multnomah University (Portland, OR) on Tuesday, March 5th at 6:00pm.  Click here for information on the National Tournament.  Here is a bracket for the tournament.
