The men's basketball team defeated Baptist Bible College, 98-85 on Friday night to advance to the NCCAA Central Region Championship Game on Saturday against Grace University.
Jack Mitchell and Sage Ruis sparked a strong start for MCC for MCC in the first half by scoring 12 and 11 points respectively helping MCC gain a 43-34 halftime lead. In the second half MCC was able to stretch the lead out to as many as 17 points, but BBC wouldn't go away and they closed the gap to 81-73 with about five minutes remaining. However MCC was able to hold on for the victory and advanced to their third straight regional championship game, and their sixth in the last seven years. Mitchell led MCC with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Lonnie Penner added 21 points and 9 rebounds, while Ruis had 18 points and Bryce Birtell chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
MCC is now 22-10 on the season, and they will play for a bid to the National Tournament on Saturday at 4:00pm.
