The Manhattan Christian College men's basketball team went on the road and picked up two victories over the weekend.
Friday the Crusaders were in Joplin, Missouri to take on Ozark Christian College. This was a match-up of the only teams still undefeated in conference play. The first half was a high octane affair as both teams shot over 45% from the field, and late in the half MCC was able to stretch it out to a 54-41 halftime lead. In the second half the pace slowed a bit and the Crusaders led 61-52, and then Ozark went on a 16-2 run to go up 67-63. From there the game went back and forth, and with about 1:30 remaining Ozark had a 79-77 lead. Lonnie Penner hit a three-pointer that gave MCC a 80-79 lead. The Crusaders then came up with three straight defensive stops and hit free throws to come away with the 85-79 win. Sage Ruis led MCC with 27 points, while Penner added 23. Jack Mitchell pulled down 12 rebounds and Alex Hammack came up with 5 assists and 6 steals.
Saturday's game against Calvary Bible College was a much easier contest as MCC won going away 101-57. MCC shot 61.4% from the field for the game and all twelve players saw significant time. Will Chisam led MCC with a career-high 26 points and 8 rebounds. Josh Camacho chipped in with 12 points and Penner added 10. Michalel Gugel scored his first career field goal and finished with 5 points.
MCC is now 11-7 on the season and 4-0 in Midwest Christian College Conference play. MCC will be back in action on the road next weekend against Central Christian College (Moberly, MO) and St. Louis Christian College.
