The Manhattan Christian College men's basketball team dropped a home contest against Southwestern College (Winfield, KS), 74-69 on Tuesday night. Southwestern jumped out to an early 8-2 lead to open the game, and they were able to maintain that margin throughout the first half. They closed the half on a 6-0 run to go into halftime leading 36-26. In the second half Southwestern stretched the lead out to twelve points before MCC rallied. Will Chisam came off the bench with the Crusaders trailing and he scored eight points to cut the deficit to 57-55. Southwestern stretched the lead back to 62-57 with about five minutes left. Sage Ruis hit a three to cut the lead to 65-62 and then with Southwestern up 70-65 MCC hit four of five free throws to cut the deficit to 70-69 with just under a minute to play. MCC got a stop but missed a jumper to take the lead with 21 seconds left. Southwestern converted both free throws to up a 72-69 and MCC committed a turnover with 12 seconds left to seal their fate.
Sage Ruis led the Crusaders with 18 points, Jack Mitchell chipped in with 11 points and Chisam contributed 10 in the losing cause. MCC is now 0-4 on the season and they will be back in action at home on Friday night at 7:30pm against Faith Baptist Bible College from Ankeny, Iowa.
