The First United Church at Dodge City KS is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, faith-filled Director of Youth Ministry for an active youth ministry involving Middle School and High School youth. Our mission is to assist youth in experiencing the love of Christ and expressing that love in their daily lives. We are seeking a person who demonstrates Christ-like character, ministry competence, good chemistry with the staff, youth, and congregation, and with the desire to create an outstanding youth program. Job Description:
Position title: Director of Youth Ministry
Job type: Full Time
Reports to: Director of Family Life and Senior Pastor
Summary: The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for all student ministries (6-12 grade) activities including volunteer team, student leaders, Confirmation classes, and all other youth ministry activities. The Director oversees the youth ministries budget, youth activities and programming, and serves on various committees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build, encourage and equip the youth ministry team so that it will most affectivity mobilize the congregation for ministry with students.
- Provide strategic planning and visioning for student ministries including setting goals and direction, establishing opportunities and evaluating existing programs, and planning and evaluation in coordination with the youth council.
- Oversee all educational classes and programs for middle school and high school students.
- Coordinate and help team teach the Confirmation Classes.
- Provide students with events that allow for fellowship, evangelism, discipleship, worship and mission.
- Maintain the youth ministries budget.
- Assist in church worship services, as needed.
- Foster connection between youth and adults within the congregation.
- Foster networking among local youth workers and with the United Methodist Conference.
- Seek opportunities for impacting ministry beyond the local church and involvement with youth programs within the community.
- Promote camping and United Methodist youth events/activities in the local church and beyond the local church.
- Maintain the youth website and social media networks.
- Participate in staff meetings and relevant committee meetings. Complete reports and other paperwork as required.
- Work cooperative with the pastors, Director of Family Life, and other staff life.
Schedule: Full time with a schedule that meets the needs and activities of the youth ministry and needs of the church.
Requirements and skills:
Experience working with youth in grades 6-12. Flexible; dedicated; dependable; highly motivated; team worker; able to communicate with students, parents, volunteers, and other church staff. Ability to search for activities that meet the needs and interest of the students and to coordinate the planning and fulfillment of the activities. Committed Christian, living and modeling a Godly lifestyle and concerned with facilitating the spiritual growth of the youth. Knowledge of and committed to the United Methodist Doctrine. Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Christian Education preferred.
