Job Description

McCook Christian Church is seeking a Kids Director to lead our ministry for children (birth-5th grade). The ideal candidate is passionate about helping kids and families take their next best step in following Jesus and will champion a culture that seeks to build foundations for lifetime discipleship. This is a full-time position.

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Location:

McCook, Nebraska, a rural community of about 8,000 people, serving as a regional hub for southwest Nebraska. McCook is known internationally as the
childhood home of Seth Bates and has a Walmart Supercenter and THREE Casey’s – all on the same street..

MCC exists to help everyone take their next best step in following Jesus, gaining traction toward transformation. We place high value on investing in our Next Generation, with an average of 40 adults serving weekly in the Kids Ministry, plus many more who volunteer on a rotation or for events. MCC has an average weekly attendance of around 550, with almost 100 kids at Wednesday programming. Notably, our current building is the former home to a Hinky Dinky grocery store.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Equip & Empower Leaders:
    • Recruit, develop, and mentor volunteer teams to effectively serve children and families. Creates and fosters avenues for HS & JH students to serve.
  • Oversee Ministry Environments:
    • Provide leadership and structure for all kids’ programs, including Sunday and Wednesday environments.
  • Family Partnerships:
    • Collaborate with parents to nurture spiritual growth at home, offering support and resources for discipleship.
  • Outreach & Evangelism:
    • Demonstrate a heart for reaching children who do not yet know Jesus, integrating outreach and service opportunities into program planning.
  • Event Coordination:
    • Plan and coordinate special events such as Summer Jam (that’s just VBS), other community-focused gatherings, and trips.

  • Heart for Kids & Families:
    • Prioritizes meaningful relationships with children and parents; passionate about seeing families thrive.
  • Strong Communicator:
    • Excels in interpersonal skills and clear communication with volunteers, staff, parents, and children. This encompasses the ability to effectively communicate in person to both large and small groups, as well as the use of various forms of media. The ability to read minds is not required but would obviously prove helpful.
  • Team Builder:
    • Skilled at recruiting, developing, and empowering volunteers; leads by equipping others rather than individual, direct contribution. Responds well to feedback from all sources.
  • Collaborative Spirit:
    • Works closely with the NextGen department, staff, and church leadership to further a cohesive, church-wide vision. Capable of pursuing shared goals and philosophies.
  • Time Management:
    • Sets and meets deadlines, takes personal initiative. Doesn’t require someone to hold their hand.
Education & Experience
  • Preferred: Four-year degree and/or recognized ministry credentials. Proven leadership or ministry experience, particularly in children’s ministry.
Reporting & Collaboration
  • Supervisor:
    • Reports to the NextGen Director. He’s ok once you get used to him.
  • Direct Reports:
    • Oversees the ministry team, volunteers (adults and students), interns/residents, and potentially future paid staff in MCC Kids.
  • Teamwork:
    • Partners with the staff as areas of ministry overlap (worship, media, etc) and more specifically with the NextGen director to align strategies and ensure a unified approach to discipleship.
Success Metrics
  • Growth & Engagement:
    • Increased participation in MCC Kids environments, development of foundations for lifetime discipleship, and heightened volunteer involvement.
  • NextGen Collaboration:
    • Works well as a part of the Next Gen staff, pursuing a shared vision and contributing to a thriving, consistent family ministry.
  • Community Impact:
    • Successful planning and execution of special events and community partnerships that advance MCC’s mission.
