General Summary of Position:
Northwest Christian Church Vision is to saturate the next generation with the Gospel. We seek to do this by loving kids, empowering parents, and welcoming people home. NWCC is seeking someone to fill the position of lead minister in a full-time or part-time/ bi-vocational capacity.
In this position he will lead our elder team, preach, teach, and cast vision. Challenging and encouraging our congregation for the purpose of spreading the Gospel, making disciples and advancing the kingdom.
- In a part-time capacity, the responsibilities and time required, described by this job description, will be flexible, compressed, and/or shared with the Elders.
- Willing to work with someone younger looking for a start in ministry, or older with years of experience, and anywhere in between.
- While fulfilling the needs listed in this job description, we also want his individual gifts to have a place to grow and develop. While this is considered the lead position, our Elders do not expect him to “do it all”. We want to come alongside the minister to accomplish the ministry, be an encouragement and help him grow.
Qualifications:
- Character:
- Shall have a relationship with Jesus, a hunger for God, love for the church, and a heart for the lost. Seeks the guidance of the holy spirit in all things.
- Credential:
- Ordained or willing to receive ordination. Graduate from a Christian college or has experience in ministry. Someone who appreciates the principles of the Restoration Movement and has a connection to the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ.
- Compatibility:
- Display of servant leadership ability while developing servant leaders. Able to lead the Elders, while remaining accountable to them.
- Gifts:
- Shall have a heart for pastoral care. Able to shepherd in a way that emphasizes building authentic relationships. Able to teach and preach in a way that’s both relevant and biblical.
- Vision:
- Demonstration of the ability to cast organizational vision. Able to help the church develop and execute a strategy that leads to an atmosphere where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is genuinely proclaimed, the kingdom is advanced, disciples are made and can multiply, and the church can be healthy and fruit bearing.
Church Needs and Challenges:
These are specific needs and challenges the church recognizes at this time as things to improve on. It is not the ministers sole responsibility to address these, but we desire guidance in these matters and want to work on them together.

- Welcoming and inviting to those who may feel hurt by or disillusioned about the church
- Standing firm when it comes to guarding the church’s health
- Develop relationships in our community, and personal relationships within the congregation

Detailed Job Description:
Preaching/Teaching
- Spend adequate time in study and preparation each week in order to deliver biblical sermons.
- Guide the Elders and worship leaders in the planning of the worship services.
- Guide and help with small groups, men’s breakfast, Sunday school, bi-weekly kids ministry, and other ministries as time allows and need arises.
Pastoral Care
- Work with the elders to ensure the pastoral care of members including hospital, nursing home, and in-home visitation.
- Work with the elders to provide follow-up of prospective members.
- Be available to provide spiritual, short-term counseling and/or referrals as needed.
- Be available to provide premarital counseling. Officiate weddings. Perform funeral services.
- Be available for community crises.
Leadership
- Lead and guide the elders in strategic planning of the church’s vision and goals. Communicate these effectively to the congregation. Empower the leaders, staff, ministries, and members to implement the vision.
- Guide Northwest Christian Church in helping people find, follow, and be like Jesus.
- Participate in the monthly board meetings with elders and deacons.
- Promote outreach into the community and surrounding areas, leading by example.
Personal & Professional Growth
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuing knowledge and understanding of God’s Word.
- Spends much time in prayer.
- Model for the congregation what it means to help people find, follow, and be like Jesus.
- Demonstrate a commitment of professional development through various resources. (Conferences, workshops, books, etc.)
- Willing to be involved in our community and is willing to get involved in community events and/or organizations.
- Meets at least yearly with the elders for annual review.
- Maintain proper family priorities at home.
Compensation:
- Full-time or part-time compensation is negotiable, based on availability and experience.
- Time allowed for conferences, camps, retreats, etc.
- Vacation time included.
About Us:
- Northwest Christian Church began meeting in September 1970, hitting 50 years in 2020. Originally named Church of Christ, we changed our name in November 2018 to Northwest Christian Church.
- Our congregation of about 45 people is made up of all ages.
- All of our services are live streamed on Facebook for those unable to attend.
- Our regular events include: Summer VBS, Bi-weekly children’s ministry- Kingdom Kids, Bi-Weekly High School Bible Study, Monthly Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study, Weekly Sunday School, Fall Harvest Supper, Summer Bash, Bi-weekly Small Group
About Our Community:
- Located in Alta, our congregation includes families from five different communities. Alta’s population is 1800, and is part of the Alta-Aurelia school district. Storm Lake is close by with a population of 11,000+, and is known for its diverse community.

Financially:
Christian Evangelistic Mission – CEM (church planting and promoting healthy churches in Iowa) Camp Nebowa (church camp on Blue Lake in Onawa, Iowa), Beauty Amidst the Ashes (adoption advocate), The Bridge of Storm Lake (ministering to vulnerable youth of Storm Lake Iowa), and Josiah Venture (reaching young people in Central and Eastern Europe).
- We volunteer time and provide donations to Alta’s local food pantry, The Lord’s Cupboard.
- We have opened our building up for use by Alcoholics Anonymous and a small Spanish speaking congregation.
