Minister of Youth and Children

Job Description

Grace Community Church (GCC), a non-denominational, Bible believing church, seeks a dynamic Associate Pastor to lead and grow our Children’s/Youth Ministries. The mission is to guide and develop volunteers and students in fulfilling the purposes of worship, discipleship, service, fellowship and evangelism, implementing strategies and programs to assist in spiritual formation in these five areas.

This position is supervised by the Senior Pastor and Elder Council.

Qualifications:

• Must have energy and enthusiasm for ministry, with a passion for youth and an ability to understand the culture and relate to young people.
• Must have a vibrant Christian faith and walk, with Biblically-sound doctrinal beliefs
  (must be in agreement with our Doctrinal Statement.).
• Must be highly relational and an effective teacher/communicator.
• Must be an equipper who recruits and develops volunteer leadership within the church body.
• Must have organizational skills, to maintain order amidst the complexity and detail of various, simultaneous ministry components.
• Must be a creative, innovative thinker, team player, have a teachable spirit and be a servant leader.
• Must be able to handle confidential matters and material with integrity.
• Must work well with parents and families.

You would have the freedom to develop a ministry unique to GCC for children/youth,
and outreach to other young people in the community.

General Responsibilities:

• Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, teach Bible truth, engage in pastoral care to the children and youth, disciple the children and youth to do ministry in the church, and provide leadership and role modeling in all areas of the Christian life.
• Provide administrative leadership for the Children’s and Youth programs.

Responsibilities with Children’s Ministry:

• Focus: Nursery through Grade 5.
• Provide administrative leadership for the Children’s program in the areas of planning and coordinating, with periodic re-evaluation of successes and needs for change.
• Recruit volunteers to help conduct these ministries.
• Be the source of leadership and a source of encouragement for the Children’s Ministry volunteers.
• Show great energy and enthusiasm in their interaction with the young ones and the performance of these duties.
• Current programs include:
  • Oversee nursery workers,
  • Children’s Sunday School,
  • Children’s Church,
  • Junior Church,
  • Kids Bible Club,
  • Vacation Bible School,
  • Summer Bible Camp.

Responsibilities with Youth Ministry:

• Focus: Middle School (Grades 6, 7, & 8) and High School (Grades 9-12).
• Plan, conduct, coordinate and evaluate a comprehensive ministry to 6th-12th grade youth in the church, and to unchurched youth in the community that attend.
• Recruit volunteers to help conduct these ministries.
• Be the source of leadership and a source of encouragement for the Youth Ministry volunteers.
• Provide counseling to the Church’s youth when needed.
• Support the ongoing programs and ministries of the Church by involving the youth in these programs and ministries.
• Plan and conduct special activities and events designed to meet the social, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of youth.
• Current programs include:
  • Youth Sunday School,
  • Youth Group,
  • Monthly Youth activities,
  • Other special events and service or fundraising opportunities.

Other Responsibilities:

• Will be responsible for normal pastoral duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
  • Preaching in the Senior Pastor’s absence
  • Shut-in visitation
• Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
  • New Chance devotions
  • Etc.
