Job Description

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Manhattan, Kansas is seeking a person of Christian faith with a positive, friendly and welcoming attitude who can work onsite with our pastoral staff and leadership teams in shaping and maintaining the church’s communications strategy across various channels to effectively engage and connect with our congregation, visitors, and the community at-large.

The Communications Director will be a member of the office staff, reporting to the Senior Pastor and the Coordinating Council.

Salary: $45,000 -$50,000 depending upon qualifications and experience plus vacation and holiday benefits. This is a full time exempt salaried position.

Time Requirements:

Flexible work schedule to align with church related events, activities, meetings, and Sunday mornings.
Scheduled weekly office hours adequate for effective open-door availability.
Minimum of 40 hours per week focused on key responsibilities.
Beyond focus on key responsibilities, being personally involved in the life of the church is encouraged.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the church.
Supervise church communications efforts.
Create engaging and impactful content for various communications platforms.
Oversee and manage the church’s social media presence.
Maintain and update the church’s website.
Create visually appealing graphics, images, and visual assets for digital and print media.
Collaborate with team leaders to promote church events, and community initiatives.
Cultivate relationships with local media outlets to share church activities, events, etc.
Facilitate communications within the church among staff, leadership, and congregation.
Monitor/Analyze/Improve performance of communications channels and campaigns.
Work with pastoral staff with confidentiality in handling sensitive crisis communications.
Ensure that all communication efforts align with the church’s mission, values and goals.
Ensure that media and communication technology is maintained, updated and effective.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree with some experience in communications or a bachelor’s degree.
Person of Christian faith.
Good communication and marketing skills.
Good relation-building skills.
Must already be able to work legally in the United States
