First Christian Church of Ashland is seeking a full-time pastor.  First Christian Church in Ashland, KS has history dating back over 100 years. We are a family of believers rooted in traditional values – Loving God, family, country. We value each person as God does. We strive to instruct and love our youth into deeper discipleship, as that desire is practiced with adults too. FCC has the intimacy of a smaller size congregation (less than 50), sharing lives with each other as followers of Christ. We believe it is by Christ alone we attain right relationship with God and ultimately salvation.

Ashland Kansas is the seat of Clark County, fairgrounds and all, situated in the heart of agriculture land USA. There is respect for the land and living things here, all things made by God the creator. The community is made up of hard working people. Great pride is taken in the life of our community. Our K-12 schools, hospital, retail establishments etc. offer residents essential services, with Dodge City less than an hour drive away.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited Christian College.
  • Degree program must emphasize training/preparation in Christian ministry to pastor a Christian church.
  • One or more years’ experience preferred. Less than one year experience may be considered.
Guiding Faith Belief:
  • Adherence to the authoritative word of God revealed by all of scripture.
  • Belief in the trinity – God revealed in three persons – God, Jesus son of God, and the Holy Spirit.
  • Personal conviction to follow Jesus the Christ (savior of all repentant people through grace).
  • Full recognition that submission to the lordship of Jesus Christ is, for self and all others, the only way by which a person can enter into right relationship with God.
Personal Conduct:
  • The Pastor will at all times serve with professionalism.
  • He shall exemplify the biblical model of honesty, patience, love and compassion.
  • The Pastor will use due diligence his communications to the Church Board and to congregants.
Responsibilities:
  • Worship Services
  • With energy and enthusiasm fulfill the role of primary preacher/teacher during Sunday service.
  • Communicate biblically based messages in a current day relevant manner to encourage discipleship, knowledge of God’s word, with clarity in a confused world.
  • Give reasonable lead time to church Board if anticipating an absence for an upcoming Sunday.
  • Be willing and able to lead a Bible study such as Bible History, Christian Worldview, Prophecy, Sharing the Gospel message etc.
Congregational Care
  • Work closely with youth group volunteers.
  • Visit the elderly and infirm.
  • Counsel people using Christian perspective/love in matters of ill health, behavioral challenges, social/political concerns etc.
  • Assist in maintaining a welcoming environment at the church by engaging people before and after church service.
  • Be available by phone/email.
  • Advise the church Board of needs concerning congregational care.
Administrative
  • Attend church Board meetings to communicate a Pastor’s report as an agenda item.
  • Actively contribute ideas/perspective while fully partnering with Board members during meetings, and at other times.
  • Engage in and maintain a collaborative, respectful teamwork approach to church leadership.
  • Maintain the church website account.
Community
  • Be willing and able to conduct weddings, funerals and baptisms.
  • Engage with the wider community to develop relationships that would in turn help encourage Christian comradery.
Church Property
  • Play a constructive role in partnership with Church Board to keep the church building and parsonage home in good repair.
Compensation/Benefits:

Salary Pastor’s base level salary $40,800 per year. Salary payments are made twice monthly. Once each calendar year the Board will review the Pastor’s salary for consideration of cost of living adjustment or other need.

  • Three weeks paid vacation.
  • Pastor’s utilization of all vacation time is mandatory each service year. Suggested use of vacation time – rest, study, reflection.
  • Health insurance contribution provided to Pastor as a set dollar amount, to be
    negotiated pending needs/cost/availability.
  • Accountable expense reimbursement includes cost of personal phone, and up to
    $125.00 per month for church ministry related costs.
  • Rent free use of church parsonage (3 bedroom, 2 bath house with finished basement, fenced backyard, garden space, quiet neighborhood).
Authority:

The Pastor answers to the Church Board concerning any question of Pastor’s on-going employment with the Board having final decision making authority. The Pastor will not have voting authority during Board meetings; however, the Pastor will contribute advisory guidance integral to all things spiritual and otherwise. The Pastor’s involvement in collaborative/teamwork management in church business and church ministry related functions, is recognized/valued by all Board members as a key element in FCC leadership composition.
