About Us
First Baptist Church of Scott City is committed to the person of Jesus Christ, and we base our teaching upon God’s revealed word, the Bible. FBCSC is part of the American Baptist Denomination. Our weekly attendance averages 300.

Job Description
First Baptist Church of Scott City is seeking a Worship Pastor. The role of the Worship and is to oversee all elements of service programming for FBC Scott City under the direction and leadership of the senior pastor. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values, and strategy of FBC Scott City and the ability to align staff, leadership teams, and volunteers with its mission, vision, and values. The Worship and Pastors will lead all components of worship programming including music, audio, video, lighting, creative elements, and series planning.
Responsibilities:
Modeling Biblical Priorities
- Responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of FBC Scott City.
- The Worship Pastor should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ.
- The Worship Pastor models a strong relationship with his or her spouse (if married) and children (if applicable).
- The Worship Pastor strives to fulfill his or her purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships, and actions. These objectives are accomplished by:
- Committing to a daily quiet-time with God.
- Participating in a FBC Scott City small group on a regular basis.
- Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity.
- Developing personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.
- Supporting the ministries of FBC Scott City by faithfully giving at least 10% of gross income.
- Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of FBC Scott City employees, as defined by the Bylaws, Guiding Principles, and Staff Handbook.
Program Planning
- Responsible for collaborating with the senior pastor to plan and execute events that accomplish the vision as well as spiritual, educational, and organizational goals of the church. This includes, but is not limited to, weekend worship services, leadership events, and other ministry programs. This is accomplished by:
- Brainstorming with teams to generate ideas and creative elements for service programming.
- Interfacing with event communicators to ensure a consistent message is told in the program details, i.e., music, video, offering setups, next steps, etc.
- Planning and coordinating all musical, video, technical, and creative elements of the weekend services and series (for example: song selection, video selection, scripture readings, etc.).
- Creating detailed service plans including musical, technical, video, and other program notes and assets.
- Leading regular evaluations and critique sessions to maintain a bar of excellence and monitoring the impact of service programming.
- Act as the point person for all events such as Easter, Christmas, baptisms, and other special church-wide celebrations.
Communications and Creative Development
- Responsible for leading the creative direction of FBC Scott City including, but not limited to, service programming, promotions, and digital media. This is accomplished by:
- Staying in touch with culture trends to effectively connect the culture with the Gospel.
- Understanding the DNA of FBC Scott City to effectively maximize programming, series development, promotions, branding, and communications.
- Establishing clearly defined policies and processes that set proper expectations related to communication, especially as it relates to in-service promotions.
- Coordinating with staff and volunteers to effectively communicate church-wide programs and initiatives and strategically coordinate promotions.
- Creating consistency in messaging, branding, and promotions.
- Developing creative ways to communicate desired messages with the church body.
Musical Direction
- Responsible for developing the people, philosophy, systems, and deadlines related to the music selection and production for worship services and other ministry initiatives. This is accomplished by:
- Overseeing the philosophy, systems and deadlines related to the production of dynamic worship sets.
- Recruiting and developing instrumentalists and vocalists, both technically and spiritually.
- Directing the rehearsals for all services.
Video Production
- Responsible for developing the people, philosophy, systems, and deadlines related to the production of video for worship services and other ministry initiatives. This is accomplished by:
- Recruiting and developing volunteers, both technically and spiritually.
- Developing a video team to produce creative and effective promotional and in-service videos including concept, scripting, video shoots, editing, and post-production management.
- Leading and strategizing creative tactics to use video to promote and send the messages FBC Scott City wants to communicate to the church and the world.
Technical Direction
- Responsible for overseeing the people, equipment, systems, and deadlines related to executing a successful weekend experience and other events. This is accomplished by:
- Recruiting and developing volunteer teams for audio, lighting, video, and stage.
- Communicating with the necessary technical language to communicate the vision and needs of each service.
- Maintaining and monitoring the condition of all the equipment (audio, lighting, stage, video) and arranging repairs as needed.
- Trouble-shooting technical challenges and brainstorming solutions for situations.
Volunteer Supervision and Development
- Responsible for providing leadership to all volunteer musicians, vocalists, and tech teams. The Worship and Pastor leads, evaluates, and mentors existing volunteers. Includes the following responsibilities:
- Recruiting and empowering volunteers to serve for all midweek, weekend, and other scheduled events.
- Scheduling all weekend teams including all volunteer musicians, vocalists, and technical teams.
- Overseeing the training and development of the volunteers.
- Managing systems/processes to organize all team members.
- Supervising volunteers in day-to-day operational activities.
- Maintaining a strong network of relevant professionals (worship leaders, musicians, technical engineers, graphic designers, web developers, etc.)
- Developing ministry partnerships with outside vendors that share FBC Scott City’s commitment to excellence.
