Youth Pastor
Job Description
Worden Cornerstone Church (WCC) is looking to hire a full-time youth pastor to lead our church’s junior high and high school students by building a comprehensive, weekly ministry to this group (fellowship, worship, discipleship, missions and outreach). To be successful in this position, you will need to provide students with a place to belong that gives them the opportunity to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and influence those around them to do the same. This position will also include developing a ministry for our college-age and 20-something young adults. There will also be associate pastor responsibilities as assigned by the pastor (hospital visitation, occasional preaching, etc.). The salary will be up to $50,000 depending on experience, education, etc.
Worden Cornerstone Church is a healthy, loving church that is growing all the time. Baldwin City is a small town, but close to Lawrence (home of KU) and the Kansas City area. Doing youth ministry in a one-high-school town is a luxury. It is easy to attend games, concerts, etc. and see many students, parents and others in the community.
Youth Pastor Responsibilities
- Attending and participating in staff meetings.
- Overseeing, growing, and coordinating the church’s youth ministry and young adult ministry.
- Developing a weekly youth gathering for spiritual growth, fellowship and outreach.
- Developing and overseeing Sunday morning Bible study time.
- Discipling students in the knowledge of God and His Word.
- Organizing youth ministry events such as retreats, mission trips, service projects and fun events.
- Developing an atmosphere where students are not left out of any activity due to money, etc.
- Recruiting and training volunteers to serve in the WCC youth ministry and delegating responsibilities.
- Designing, overseeing, and examining any curriculum used for all programs related to this ministry.
- Interacting with students during Sunday services and other churchwide activities and in the community.
- Mentoring youth to develop their leadership skills and helping them plug into other church ministries.
- Promoting the WCC youth ministry through social media, etc.
- Communicating in a timely manner with youth, families, staff and elders about youth ministry.
- Developing and overseeing the youth ministry budget and maintaining youth data.
Youth Pastor Qualities
- Evident, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and being a role model for students.
- A clear calling to minister to young people long term through vocational church ministry.
- A personal, yet professional, relationship with students and their families.
- Show professional growth with ongoing training in youth ministry through education or conferences.
- Previous youth ministry experience is an advantage.
- Understanding of challenges and needs of young people.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency with social media.
- Strong communication (both verbal and written) and organizational skills.
- Ability to work various hours, evenings, weekends and public holidays, and on short notice.
- Support of and agreement with WCC doctrine, mission and policies.
Organizational Relationship and Supervision
The youth minister reports to the pastor for spiritual and ministry guidance. The pastor and elders provide an annual evaluation of the youth minister’s performance. Report to the church council for budget considerations
