Jason Johnson To Lead Youth and Family Ministry Programs
Jason Johnson is passionate about pouring into the lives of students who are preparing for Kingdom Work and mentoring them to become effective and humble servants of the King. As Associate Professor of Youth and Family, he will draw on his 27 years of vocational and volunteer ministry experience to make the classroom engaging and practical.
Johnson has 15 years of student ministry experience, but his expertise also includes the leadership roles of Discipleship, Education, Associate, and most recently as Senior Pastor at Osage Hills Christian Church in Tulsa, OK. This wide variety of hands-on experience with various age groups has made him passionate about teaching, spiritual formation, equipping, vision and leadership development.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education from Ozark Christian College, a Master’s degree in Christian Formation and Soul Care from Denver Seminary, two classes away from a Master’s degree in Contemporary Theology and Philosophy from Lincoln Christian Seminary, and is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Ministry program at Denver Seminar in the Leadership Track.
“Jason and his wife, Kari met with students, staff, and faculty during the on-campus interview,” reported Dr. Greg Delort, Vice President for Academics. “Each of these groups had a very positive impression of what Jason will bring to the environment of MCC. The students were especially positive with one commenting, ‘I really appreciate his authenticity and his vision for the youth program at MCC . . . I feel honored and grateful that I was able to sit in and get a chance to meet him.’”
Known for his ability to take difficult subject matter and break it down in a way that is understood, Johnson will help students better understand themselves so that they will know the steps needed to move forward in their personal faith journey as well as be prepared to disciple others.
“Jason’s extensive experience in ministry and his desire to make a difference in an academic context fits the mission of MCC,” said Delort. “We look forward to Jason and his family becoming an active part of the MCC community.”
Jason and his wife, Kari, have been married 22 years. They have a daughter who is a senior in high school who will be attending MCC in the fall of 2018 and a son who is in sixth grade.
