Job Description
Ogden Friendship House of Hope (OFHoH) has an open internship opportunity. You would be working with the Director of the OFHoH. OFHoH helps folks with a food pantry, emergency aid, referrals, and provide household goods and clothing.
Note: Listed below is the job description for the Director of OFHoH. The intern would not have this level of responsibility but would work closely with the director to accomplish the mission. The Intern would receive a stipend for their service.
Assignment And Accountability
- The director of the Ogden Friendship House of Hope is directly accountable to the Ogden Friendship House of Hope Parish Council.
- The director of the Ogden Friendship House of Hope (OFHoF) is accountable to and as such, shall make quarterly and annual reports to the OFHoH Parish Council and annual reports to the annual conference of the Great Plains Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church to report progress, statistics, finances, program needs, etc.
Program Responsibilities
- The director will provide leadership and direction for the mission of the OFHoH.
- The director will supervise and train volunteers, interns and paid staff in the clothing and food distribution center. The director will ensure volunteers are thanked and recognized (annual luncheon) as well as nominating them for additional awards to recognize exceptional service (Greater Manhattan Community Awards and others).
- Move seasonal clothing items each fall and spring to/from store floor and storage building.
- Ensure the OFHoH center and storage building are organized and clean.
- The director will personally administer benevolence funds to qualified patrons for things such as gas vouchers, utilities assistance, rent and prescription assistance. The director will coordinate with other helping agencies (Salvation Army, Shepherd’s Crossing, Catholic Charities, etc.) to provide additional resources and referrals that will assist the client. Director will counsel with clients, keeping confidence and listening with an open mind.
- The director is responsible for grant writing and final reports for same, record keeping for all services provided, and all correspondence (i.e. thank you notes for donations).
- Ensure there is sufficient staffing for each activity, in coordination with the volunteer scheduler.
- Order and stock food pantry and associated hygiene and cleaning items. Ensure all items on the client choice list are available.
- For the food pantry: ensure fresh items have not spoiled, shelf stable items are within the parameters of expiration dates. Each day the facility is open for business, check and log in temperatures in all freezer and refrigeration units. Ensure cleanliness and pest control is sufficient to store food in accordance with requirements established by Harvesters food bank. Complete all required food safety training.
- Screen all potential food pantry beneficiaries to ensure eligibility. Maintain all client records.
- In a timely manner, provide all reports as required: Harvesters (monthly), parish council (quarterly), grants (as stated on grant), Great Plains Annual Conference (annually), GPAC funds request (annually) and others as required.
- Provide facilities for Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholic Anonymous and other groups whose mission is compatible to the mission of the OFHoH.
- Maintain key control and building security.
- Coordinate all special holiday programs- Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets (with Breadbasket); Adopt a Family for Christmas (with Junior League); Christmas Store (with the House Café, Ogden Community Center, Leadership Studies).
- Recycle clothing (Goodwill); cardboard (Howie’s); ink cartridges (Staples); cell phones (Sprint).
- Serve as an emergency shelter for severe weather. Respond to people affected by fire, flood and other emergency with resources.
Relationship/Connection Within The Ogden Community
- The director will represent the OFHoH in Ogden community activities when appropriate.
- The director will maintain interaction with Ogden Elementary School and the Ogden Community Center and serve on appropriate committees (Site council, Shalom).
- The director will provide leadership in addressing identified needs of the Ogden Community and address the City Council as needed.
Outreach
- The director will speak to area churches, civic groups, student groups, etc. about the mission of the OFHoH. If his/her schedule does not permit said engagements, the director will designate appropriate persons to speak in his/her stead.
- The director will provide tours of the OFHoH as requested.
- The director will work with and establish partnerships with other missions/ministries to share resources; for example, but not limited to: FIT closet, PET project, Soldiers Angels, Manhattan Library, Ogden Community Center, Toys for Manhattan, The House, ReStore, Goodwill, Breadbasket, etc.
- The director will work with mission teams, KSU Leadership studies and other clubs and individuals to share the story and provide activities to complete tasks at the OFHoH.
- The director will utilize social media to spread the word about the offerings of the OFHoH.
Stewardship
- Provide budget and financial data. Ensure daily cash totals are recorded and that all funds are turned in promptly to the treasurer.
- The director will coordinate for the solicitation and organization of food, clothing and household items donated to the distribution center.
- The director will work with the treasurer in the soliciting, billing, vouchering and distribution of funds.
- The director will be mindful of the specific material needs of clients and meeting those needs.
- The director will look for creative ways to save money and for additional ways to raise money (eBay sales, targeted marketing, rummage sales, etc.)
Training
The director is encouraged to attend training that will strengthen his/her understanding of the community and issues relating to poverty, food safety, non-profit management (Riley Co. Health Dept, poverty conferences, family systems, addiction, etc.)
Long Range Planning
- The director will provide input to the board on future needs and goals.
- The director will work with the board in setting and communicating to the wider community the future goals and objectives.
- The director will provide input into the maintenance and upkeep of the OFHoH and storage facilities (226 Riley and 207 Riley Ave)
