Children’s Minister

Job Description

First Christian Church is an imperfect group of people who have plenty of differences—and we love it that way. We’re seekers and followers who have all come to the same realization: God is for everyone, so we are too. Together we seek to follow Jesus and tell the whole world about His love for them.

Every generation gets to participate in what God is doing in the world, and at FCC, we are particularly excited about the special role that our kids and students have in God’s Kingdom as future leaders in the Church, but also active disciples of Jesus in big ways here and now. The Family Ministry comes alongside kids as they explore and experience Jesus. We collaborate with parents to equip and empower their child’s discipleship to Jesus–loving God and loving everyone.

Your Role

The Children’s Minister role is a critical part of the Family Ministry, working to develop and execute programming and volunteer team development with specific areas of FCC Kids on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, Summer Day Camp, and other specialized groups and events, and also providing pastoral care to families. This role works closely with other members of the Family Ministry, helping to communicate and implement the vision of the Family Ministry, and the overall vision for First Christian Church.

Your Character

Skills don’t count for much if they aren’t founded on humility and a heart of service. Nowhere is this truer than in the context of working for God’s Church.

  • You are passionate to serve in a multi-generational church that seeks to tell the story of Jesus to those who don’t yet know Him.
  • You are comfortable caring for people and developing programs, groups, and events that foster the discipleship journey of children.
  • You understand that Children’s Ministry is all about kids, parents, and volunteers.
    • You have a heart to love and serve alongside all three.
  • You value parents and see your role as a children’s minister as being the best friend to parents in their child’s spiritual journey.
  • Staying in touch with families and volunteers is top of mind for you.
    • You communicate clearly and follow up promptly.
  • You have healthy self-awareness and are honest about your strengths and weaknesses but aren’t afraid to grow by seeking constructive criticism and opportunities to work outside your comfort zone.
  • You see children as not just the church of tomorrow, but the church of today.

Your Work with Others

Nobody flies solo here. We’re a dedicated staff team and are all partners in what’s happening at FCC, so we work in unison and always have each other’s back.

  • Minister to children regarding their decision to follow Christ.
  • Maintain consistent and timely communications with parents.
  • Develop volunteer-led teams by recruiting, training and equipping team leaders.
  • Provide recruiting support to volunteer team leaders.
  • Provide pastoral care to families during life events such as hospital stays, deaths, births, divorce, etc.

Your Tasks

Roles within ministry can often encompass a wide variety of responsibilities, but you can expect the following to be a regular part of your role.

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate programming for Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, Day Camp, and other special events.
  • Equip parents with the tools they need for spiritual leadership in their homes
  • Work with the FCC Kids Team to keep offices and supply rooms clean and organized.
  • Secure and comfortable kids environments are top priorities for you, so you always ensure that safety guidelines are maintained.
  • Attend staff meetings, retreats, and trainings as requested; some of which may require overnight travel.

Qualifications for this Position

  • Bachelor’s degree in ministry, child development, or similar field.
  • Restoration Movement background.
  • Minimum experience of 2 years preferred.
  • Full-Time (if interested in the role but seeking Part-Time, please communicate accordingly in your application).
  • Works as part of a team reporting to the Lead Children’s Minister.
