Galilee Christian Church
History & Current Status
In the summer of 1870 about a dozen men and women met together in the small community of Galilee to establish a local church. This community already consisted of a school, doctor’s office, general store, a grist mill and a cotton gin. A church was all that was needed to make this little village complete. A man by the name of Philip Lamar, who had already established a number of new congregations in northeast Georgia, along with his brother, James, would establish what would be his final church plant. The land was donated and local men in the community began building what would become a beacon of hope within this community. Galilee Christian Church stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness over the past 147 years. This church is certainly not about the buildings, as rich a tradition as they serve. It is all about the people and shoulders of those who established this great work years ago and trusted God to build His church here in Jackson County.
Galilee’s experience has hardly been ordinary; from its inception years ago it has enjoyed growth, which has accelerated in recent years. This thriving community of Jefferson, GA, has become a highly sought after bedroom community of Atlanta. Although Galilee Christian Church is a well-established community of believers, much of its history is yet to be told.
Galilee Christian Church is a part of the Restoration Movement. The goal of a Restoration Movement church is to simply do what the Bible says to do, living out our faith in the most Biblically authentic way possible. They hold to the inerrancy of scripture in its original manuscripts and believe that the Bible we have today accurate represents that inerrancy for its complete authority in our lives. They believe that salvation is received by grace, through faith in Christ Jesus, and that water baptism by immersion is an essential step of obedience for the believer. They approach matters of doctrine within the Body of Christ with the motto of: “In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, but in all things love.” Under the leadership of Senior Minister, Nick Vipperman, their mission as a church is to advance the Gospel, make disciples, and serve all. Their leadership team believes and lives out this mission on a daily basis.
Today, Galilee Christian has never been stronger! With over 600 each week in worship this community is experiencing its best days! Galilee is known for its strong, applicable, and Bible-based teaching, excellent children’s and student programming, and intentional focus on impacting their surrounding community through multiple outreach events and sports ministry. Under Nick’s leadership and an outstanding staff and board of elders, Galilee Christian is on the threshold of its most influential days of ministry, training, and outreach. This team of gifted
pastors and support staff are committed to the development of high quality teams and volunteers in order to efficiently and effectively do ministry both inside and outside its walls.
The campus includes a 700 seat worship auditorium for weekend services, effective student facilities, a brand new children’s ministry center with classrooms which is being built, a family life center/gymnasium, and administrative offices. The main worship auditorium is equipped with comfortable seating, good audio, video, and general theatrical lighting. With the use of their media and technical teams, Galilee Christian is able to effectively create an inviting, Christ-centered environment for worship. Services are offered on Sunday mornings at 8:30 & 10:45am.
Attendees will participate in, and experience, a 60-minute service in a comfortable atmosphere with blended/contemporary music and compelling messages based in scripture that are designed to connect people to applicable life lessons and grow them in their walk with Jesus. Sunday School classes are offered campus wide at 9:45am each week.
Galilee Christian is also committed to becoming a community of disciple makers. This desire to engage their community in transformational relationships through LifeGroups and 1:1 discipleship is a distinctive they want to be known for in their city. Outreach seems to flow through the ministry of the people of Galilee and this local church is clearly moving the
needle within Jackson County.
Galilee Christian Church exists to ADVANCE the Gospel and MAKE disciples who SERVE our church, their community and the world.

Worship & Ministry Paradigm
The ministry of Galilee Christian Church is fueled by a core mission to ADVANCE the Gospel, MAKE Disciples, and SERVE everybody. They do this through an intentional discipleship process called The Path. The goal is not to simply create more members who just attend their church, but to make disciples who passionately follow Jesus living out His mission in their daily lives. The Path helps people to:
DISCOVER: Christ and His Church
CONNECT: To others in LifeGroups
SERVE: The local church, community, and the world
MAKE: Disciples who make disciples
Worship at Galilee Christian Church plays a significant role in carrying out the mission of the church. The songs they sing, the style of music selected, and the genuineness and engagement desired in those leading all point to a heart for Christ-centered worship that blesses the heart of God, engages believers, and points the lost to Jesus. The worship style at Galilee is a healthy blend that leans towards the modern and engages the demographic and community. Corporate worship music and musical features, whether solo or with a choir, include music styles that span: Hillsong, Passion, Northpoint, Elevation, with a healthy balance of classic worship songs and hymn arrangements. The instrumental team is typically made up of a 5-7 piece band with 3-4 vocalists who fill the platform. Standard instrumentation and personnel would include: worship leader fronting from guitar, piano, organ, drums, bass, electric, synth/keys, and occasionally the addition of specialty instruments (strings, woodwinds, etc.). The band, vocal team, and choir is made up of volunteer musicians of moderate skill level. Congregational engagement in a worship experience is of the utmost importance! It is absolutely vital that the worship minister be able to connect with and capture the congregation, engaging them in active participation. His pastoral heart, passion for the Lord, the people, and the team must be genuine, contagious and believable. The ability for this leader to engage the Word of God with knowledge, authority and passion is important.
The weekend services embrace the use of creativity and leverage tasteful A/V/L technology. The production team utilizes appropriate lighting, video, inear monitoring w/ Aviom, and a Yamaha digital console. The overall purpose and feel of Sunday services is to engage the believer in Jesus-exalting worship and Biblical teaching while providing the unbeliever a venue in which they are exposed to the truth of God’s love and grace through the power of His Word and genuine community with others. The environment is Christcentered and authentic.
Children and Student Ministries are provided during Sunday gatherings. Galilee strives to provide a safe environment for young people who are taught by qualified and committed volunteers passionate about teaching the truth of God’s Word in a compelling and engaging way. The children and student spaces are vibrant, fresh, updated, and intentional, leveraging sets and A/V technology. This growing ministry has led Galilee to expand their facilities into a brand new $1.4 million dollar children’s wing set to open in a few months!
Galilee Christian is a groups-based church that believes in the power of community. LifeGroups meet both in homes and in the community and serve as a way to encourage one another
and help people to grow in the Lord. Groups also serve in the community together. Galilee is known in the city as a highly relational and serving church.
Leadership & Culture
Galilee Christian Church is elder led while working side by side with the Senior Minister, Nick Vipperman. Nick provides direct oversight and leadership to the other 4 full-time ministers on staff who oversee Worship, Student Ministry, Children’s & Sports Ministry, Discipleship & Pastoral Care. The staff are considered to be leaders/managers of the ministries and people they are called to pastor. Nick is a relational and intentional leader who loves the local church and the community he serves. He is passionate about keeping the course of ministry clear among the staff and congregation. He is a compelling communicator who has an obvious love for the Word of God and how it grows and transforms us into becoming genuine and active followers of Jesus who live out our faith. Nick is a deliberate, yet very approachable, leader who is steadfast in his faith and pursuit of genuine, lifegiving community.
Nick and the Ministerial Staff of Galilee are eager to empower competent leaders who embrace the DNA of Galilee Christian Church. They are seeking a creative worship minister with a pastor’s heart to bring purposeful leadership to the worship and production ministry. The fruit of this person’s leadership will initiate growth, creativity, and connection while at the same time recruit and train a team of volunteers who are passionate and effective musicians and technicians. Confidence and competency, with humility and vision, is the key to ones success in ministry at Galilee Christian Church.
The ministerial and support staff at Galilee Christian thrive in community together! There is a dynamic chemistry, love for the community, and collective commitment to the vision amongst this team. These people love being together and are committed to linking arms with one another to serve each other and the mission of this church.
The Galilee staff clearly share an “all in” mentality and the chemistry piece of this next leader cannot be overstated. The natural ability of this next Worship Minister to adapt to a life-giving, visionary, and fun environment is of the utmost importance. Creative loaners will not work well in the culture of Galilee. This team loves working and serving together! They lean into each other’s strengths and seek to develop each others weaknesses. This staff possesses a wonderful spirit of collaboration and this next leader must bring that type of open-handed leadership to the table.
Challenge & Opportunity
Galilee’s leadership in this ministry over the past several years has been inconsistent and has lacked thoughtful and strategic vision and implementation. However, this team of committed volunteers has stayed the course because they believe in the mission and love the community and local church. This position not only requires strong leadership skills with the ability to embrace a 360-degree leadership style i.e leading up/down, and across the organization, but most importantly, someone who possesses the heart of a pastor/shepherd. The ability to recruit, train, pastor, and inspire volunteers is a must as the bench needs to be deepened and strengthened. A desire to build on the strengths and style of the existing structure and collaborate on some new initiatives amidst churchwide growth and expansion will require emotional, creative, and relational intelligence. The opportunity to be a part of the Galilee team at this point in the life of the church and be a key contributor during this growing season will also offer great rewards long-term.
This leader will bring oversight, management, and visionary leadership to the worship services, music teams, and all technical teams. His leadership will influence the culture at Galilee. This includes all aspects of service programming and the creative expression within the community. He will work closely with the Senior, Student, and Children’s Minister in the growth and expansion of worship ministry opportunities for adults as well as students and children’s ministry.
Galilee Christian is eager for a Christ-like, pastoral, engaging and creative leader who has a passion for building a worship ministry that is relational, growing and healthy both on and off the stage. This person will be a ministry partner for Nick, connecting with his style, vision, philosophy of ministry and worship, and desire to engage believers, make disciples, and reach the lost. Alignment with and adherence to the theology of the Restoration Movement of Churches is of the utmost importance. This is a non-negotiable. Galilee Christian Church is an
amazing place to grow, lead, stretch and experience synergy with a life-giving team and also be a part of seeing Jackson County reached for Christ. Leadership potential and creative freedom to expand in influence and missional effectiveness is significant!
