Bridging the Gap, Background of the New Testament 30 CE – 135 CE

FREE Bible Class
In-Person or Online

5 Mondays
Sept. 30-Oct. 28, 2024
6:00-8:00 p.m. (Central Time)

This 5-week class will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the various backgrounds which influenced our New Testament authors.  We will investigate how the Roman Empire viewed early Christianity.  We will ponder what it was like to be a believer in the early church.  We will consider how Greco-Roman rhetoric, religions and philosophies influenced the shaping of our New Testament.  Join as we delve deeper than just the words on the pages of our Bible.

Professor: Dr. Alisha Paddock

Dr. Alisha Paddock graduated from Manhattan Christian College with a B.A. in Cross-Cultural Ministry in 2002.  She went on to receive her Master of Divinity with New Testament Concentration from Emmanuel Christian Seminary in 2007.  While teaching New Testament and Greek courses at MCC, she pursued a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of Birmingham (UK).  Her dissertation is titled “Creating Sacred Space in First Century Corinth.”
